There are three main issues at this time, beyond the Senate Eviction Bill S. 2182 which we have been working on behind the scenes with the Senators. We will follow up on this bill which we alerted you to back in late 2020 in future articles. For now, there are three issues to
follow, the first not surprisingly is the Eviction Moratorium extension which is scheduled to end on July 31. If you have been unable to articulate the problems with the assumptions made and propagated to justify the Moratorium, please be sure to watch this 10 minute video from Reason – it is worth your time. Then share it far and wide.
The second item is the updated FAQ from the US Treasury regarding Rental Assistance funds. Some states and municipalities have been playing games with the release of the funds and adding their own rules and
complications, when in doubt as to what is allowed and who does qualify, please see this updated FAQ from June 24th 2021.
Finally, on July 9th, the White House came out with a consumer protection statement that will affect many different parts of the economy. The article can be found here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/07/09/fact-sheet-executive-order-on-promoting-competition-in-the-american-economy/
What is most interesting is that this is a compilation of numerous bipartisan ideas in the spirit of Teddy Roosevelt to break up functional monopolies for the betterment of consumers. As this begins to roll out there will be an increasing wail from large business interests who are
presently trying to stay off the radar and work quietly behind the scenes. Several areas could impact property financing and ownership, therefor National REIA will continue to work with our DC lobbyists and federal friends to minimize the impact on local investors! Even beyond the budget and current policies, this single effort could leave the longest lasting impact on the country.
